Air and ground ambulance membership
Several residents have asked about the REMSA Health and Care Flight membership brochure. Here is what it covers, what it costs, and the part the brochure does not spell out.
This is not insurance. REMSA says so itself. A membership does not pay for your care. It covers the out-of-pocket cost of the transport that your health insurance or Medicare does not, after they have paid their share. If you have no insurance at all, this is not a substitute for it.
Why people here ask about it
An air ambulance bill is one of the larger surprise costs in American healthcare, and this is the kind of place where one gets used: a gated community at the end of winding canyon roads, twenty minutes from a Reno hospital in good conditions and longer in snow, in country that burns. The Davis Fire is the recent reminder.
Ground ambulance is the far more likely call, and in Washoe County that means REMSA.
The three packages
Care Flight Package
$75 a year- Covers
- Air transport only
- Where
- About 50,000 square miles of Nevada and northeastern California
No ground ambulance cover. On its own, this leaves the far more common case uncovered.
REMSA Health Package
$90 a year- Covers
- Ground ambulance only
- Where
- Washoe County, excluding Incline Village and Gerlach
St. James’s Village is in Washoe County, so this is the one that covers an ambulance from here.
Premier Package
$130 a year- Covers
- Ground and air transport
- Where
- Ground in Washoe County, air across the full Care Flight area
Bought separately the other two come to $165, so this is $35 less for both.
Prices checked against REMSAHealth.com on September 13, 2026. REMSA's website says every package covers the whole household; the printed brochure says that only of the Premier package. Confirm which applies before you enrol.
Where Care Flight flies
Care Flight's helicopter service area covers roughly 50,000 square miles of northeastern California and Nevada, from five bases, each reaching about 150 miles: Beckwourth and Truckee in California, and Reno, Fallon and the Carson Valley in Nevada. The brochure names the fourth base as Carson City and the website as Gardnerville.
California counties: Alpine, Amador, Butte, El Dorado, Inyo, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Tuolumne, Yuba.
Nevada counties: Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Esmeralda, Humboldt, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, Storey, Washoe.
Ground ambulance membership is Washoe County only, and excludes Incline Village and Gerlach.
How to enrol

Before paying, it is worth asking them three things: whether your package covers everyone in the household, what happens if you are transported by an agency other than REMSA or Care Flight, and how the membership applies once your insurance or Medicare has paid its part.
No connection, no payment. This site has no relationship with REMSA Health or Care Flight and receives nothing if you enrol. This page is here because neighbours asked what the brochure meant. It is not a recommendation, and it is not financial or medical advice. Prices and coverage change, so check their site before deciding.
